General Information
Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are employee benefit programs offered by businesses and organizations to help employees deal with personal and work-related issues that may have a negative impact on their work performance, health, and general well-being. These initiatives usually include an initial professional assessment of the issue, immediate counseling, and referral to long-term counseling (if needed) for employees and their families.
The EAP program is designed to be used as needed, and in conjunction with the existing avenues of support, Reliant staff receive through their churches, communities, and leadership. Here are some examples of the additional support an EAP could provide:
- Short-term counseling for mental/emotional health issues. The Aetna EAP program offers six free counseling sessions, per issue, per year, for each family member. Reliant staff will have a designated toll-free phone number for an initial assessment from a licensed professional. They will then be paired with a counselor whose credentials best align with the caller's problem and preferences. Those who call the EAP can request a counselor based on gender, area of expertise, and Christian beliefs. The Aetna EAP has over 5,000 Christian counselors within their nationwide network.
- Daily life assistance and referrals. The Aetna EAP also provides Reliant staff access to services for dealing with the daily difficulties of life. This service provides free 30-minute consultations with professionals specializing in financial and legal problems, including identity theft, among other things. The EAP also assists callers in finding referrals for dealing with typical family needs, such as childcare, eldercare, and educational resources.
- Education and information. The Aetna EAP provides the Resources for Living website that contains articles, information, and tools to assist Reliant staff to learn more about mental/emotional health and work/life balance.
Eligibility
The Aetna Resources for Living Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all Reliant employees serving in the United States.
*For International staff covered under the Aetna medical plan - see Aetna International EAP for details on your Aetna International EAP Plan.
Reliant encourages all staff to proactively attend to their physical, mental, and emotional health as we work within our God-given assignment to advance God's kingdom. The Aetna member website is designed to serve various industries with varying worldviews. Many of its vendors share our perspective. Thus, they welcome requests for consideration of specific needs and values. As with all information provided by outside vendors, we encourage employees and field workers to use biblical discernment and filter all information through the truth of God's word as found in the scriptures.

Sarah Swann, Barb Seckler, I have made my edits and this page is ready to go.

Matt Elkins Sarah Swann - Dave Meldrum-Green sent me an email asking we call this the
Aetna Resources for Living Employee Assistance Program as that's the title on the info we received from Aetna.

Barb Seckler Sarah Swann Matt Elkins Thanks Barb! Yes, I brought this branding issue up with Ginger Hill (Communications) at our Foster & Foster meeting when we were discussing adding an EAP:
I no longer think we need Ginger's naming or branding assistance since the name that Aetna themselves uses on their EAP is a relevant and welcoming title (IMO).....versus just "Aetna EAP". So, I'm completely satisfied. Thanks!

Matt Elkins Sarah Swann I have also attached a 2 page handout Aetna provided. I'll add the phone number and website into in the contact info boxes soon (probably closer to 1/1/21).

Barb Seckler I forgot you weren't in the meeting with ES, but we were not going to change this name of the Solomon page yet b/c it means now the links we sent in the emails to missionaries to the EAP will be broken. It will tell them the page does not exist- but it will say did you mean this? But, I just tried the link from mailchimp and it actually worked ok for me so it may also work for the missionaries- not sure. I let the liaisons know so that they can be aware in case anyone is confused if they have a broken link.
Barb Seckler
Sarah Swann Oh sorry yes I didn't hear that. Ok if we need to change it back we can Sarah Swann but we'll hope the links continue to work.
