Jumping back into MTD? Here are a few handy steps to get you back on the bandwagon:

  • Reach out to your MTD Coach and find a time to meet regularlyWe're not meant to do this alone. Meeting weekly with a coach or participating in an MTD Cohort while raising support will increase your success (and decrease the headaches). Don't have a coach, need a new one or want to join a cohort? Reach out to your Program Liaison so we can help.

  • List out who has gone non-currentNon-current means they were a donor but have had a lapse in their giving. Read through How to Call a Non-Current Donor to discover who is non-current and what to say to them. Plan to reach out soon by phone call to each non-current donor to see if they're ok (see scripts on this page).

  • Update/ clean up your database. Look at every single connection and notate where they are. Make a list of the following types of people:
    • Anyone who said they would give, but fell off the conveyor belt.
    • People you tried to reach but never got a response.
    • Referrals that you never contacted.
    • Infrequent donors or someone who gave once, but was never asked again. Plan to engage infrequent donors, asking them to give on a regular recurring basis or to increase their total annual giving.
    • Hint: utilize tags in MPDx to organize contacts into these lists.

  • If low on contacts, read through How to Find New Names. Let your MTD Coach know which three items from this list you're going to do.

  • If it's been 2< years since your last increase ask, read through The Invitation to Increase (Increase Ask). Rewrite the scripts in your own words. Start reconnecting with your donors to reestablish relationship. No ask for now.

  • Pray through your contacts and ask God to give you a "Top 40" list of people with whom He wants you to connect. The key to this activity is to set aside some intentional time to LISTEN to the Lord so He can direct your energy toward those whose hearts He's been burdening for missions.
    • If you're low on names: most of that list can be people you'll call and ask to connect you with others.
    • If it’s been a long time since you’ve asked your donors to increase, most of your list will be current donors who you'll ask to increase.
    • If you have a handful of people you’ve never asked for support, maybe they’re on the list.
*Bonus points if you email your Top 40 list to your MTD coach or accountability person.

  • Calculate your Intentional Gift amount. Share this number with your MTD Coach.

  • Set an 8-week goal. Now that you have an idea on what areas to work on, commit an 8-week chunk of time to press into MTD and create a measurable goal to accomplish in that time. The MTD Health Score Calculator might be helpful to use in goal-setting. Review your goal with your MTD Coach.

  1. Keva Ambre Here is a space where we can fill out the simple steps of jumping back into MTD. I'd love a brief description of the list below on this landing page, then we can create individual pages with more info (most of these you likely already have written up somewhere).

    • Calculate your Magic #,
    • Ask the Lord to give you a Top 40 list of people to contact first
    • Make a 6-week goal
    • plug into a cohort
    • Discover who is non-current and contact them
    • Learn how to do an increase ask
    • Brush-up on how to ask for names.
  2. Hmmm... let's do a combo of Homework (Week 1 - Introduction / Intentional Gift amount) & these steps:

Here are the tiers I send someone through when they need to raise additional support:

    1) catch up with anyone who is non-current. (LMK if you have any of those. I’ll point you to another document with what to say)

    2) Week 2 - Increase Ask

    3) engage infrequent donors, asking them to give on a regular recurring basis or to increase their total annual giving.

    4) names ask/new contacts

Ps- I have a weekly cohort for people who are raising support after their initial support raising season. You’re welcome to jump in and get some guidance through this season. Calls are on Tuesdays at 3 PM Eastern. Let me know if you want me to send you the call-in number. Right now I have very excellent and knowledgeable people in that group that would be a huge encouragement to you I think.

  3. Hey Jenni Saniukand Keva Ambre, is this page published and ready to be included in that MTD Minute email? Just wanted to make sure.

    1. Yes it's good to go!
