Types of Qualifying Events
A qualifying event is a life change that allows you to change your insurance selections.
- Marriage
- Birth of a newborn
- Adoption, or placement of a child in your home for adoption
- Death
- Loss of coverage - If you were covered on your parent's or spouse's employer's group plan and they had a loss or change of employment that caused you to lose your coverage.
- Gaining benefits eligibility - due to a change in hours. For example, if you moved from working PT20 to PT30.
What to do if you have a Qualifying Event
Things to Know
- If enrolling Reliant needs to know within 60 days of the event - this includes the time to collect and submit the enrollment forms to the insurance company.
- If terminating coverage with Reliant we need to know within 30 days of the event - this includes the time to collect and submit the enrollment forms to the insurance company.
- Coverage is effective the date of the Qualifying Event.
- If you have a Qualifying Event and you are Adding a Dependent to Insurance please follow the instructions on the Solomon page.
