MTD Coaching: Preparing for Meetings

You will be responsible for both initiating and guiding all coaching meetings for your assigned residents throughout the support-raising season. It is our hope that you will have an average of one touch point a week with your residents. The suggested coaching rhythm is 3 weeks of individual coaching (1 on 1) and then a group coaching call once a month. So, if you have 4 residents for 3 weeks, you will meet with each of the residents for a 1 on 1 coaching call, and the following week, you will facilitate a 1 hr, single-group coaching call for all 4 residents together. Please expect to be available at other times throughout the week for texts, emails, and quick calls with your coachees.

The Role of the Coach:

The Reliant MTD coach exists to support the field worker raising support by adding:

  1. eStructure

    1. The weekly check-in of MTD time cards – This gives an objective review of what has been done

    2. the weekly contact by phone call, email, or group coaching call - This provides personal interaction, allowing response to problems or progress.

  2. Coaching - the field worker does the work; the coach supports the field worker's goals by:

    1. Reflecting back to the field worker his/her progress compared to his/her goals.
    2. Facilitating interaction about celebrations and concerns so that the field worker is actively self-correcting and solving their problems
  3. Supporting Skill Development –  that leads to healthy and effective MTD.
    1. Intentional periodic practice of key support-raising skills
    2. helping the field worker set goals for growth in key support-raising competencies, as needed.
  4. Spiritual Guidance/Friendship
    1. Hey, we've all been down this road and need encouragement.

    2. keeping the field worker's eyes on God - who is their provider.

Here is the recommended schedule for your first 8 weeks of coaching:

It will be important to set very clear monthly goals and standards.

For example, Ricky Resident is one of the people you are coaching. In your first or second individual call, you will get a clear understanding of how many hours are available for MTD, and then you will set weekly goals off of that availability. If Ricky Resident has 20 hours a week to give in Feb, you would set weekly standards like 30-40 connection attempts, 4-5 appointments, with 5 one-time gift asks (letters or in person). It will then be very important to hold Ricky Resident accountable to those standards throughout the month. You will then reassess goals monthly. There is going to be a balance you will walk between setting realistic goals and also tracking their progress and making goals that will help them get to 100% by the start of the residency program. You might have to really push Ricky Resident to give more time when it is realistic to do so.
