    PTO/Vacation

    • Consider setting aside a week of vacation, usually toward the beginning or end of
    your furlough, that you can rest or enjoy family or friends
    • HMA. (You get an extra week of PTO on home assignment years)
    • Make any necessary reservations.
    4 months out
    • Make a list of different cities that you plan to visit. Begin reaching out to key people in those cities to find out if there are potential conflicts.
    • As you hear back from key people, begin working on an itinerary.
    • Think through housing and vehicle needs based on your itinerary. Contact your sending church or other ministry partners that you think may be able to help.
    • If you have school-age children, begin making a plan for any educational needs during the home assignment.
    3 months out
  • Begin communicating with your ministry partners that you are headed to the States! Let them know when you will be in specific cities so that you can begin planning meet-ups well ahead of time.
  • Start planning and purchasing special gifts from your host country for your ministry partners or friends and family that you can bring back.
  • Refine Itinerary

    • Begin mapping out your itinerary.
    • Consider specific vehicle or housing needs. Talk with your sending church and advocacy team about what you will need upon arrival.

    Preparing for Stateside MTD

    • Assess your current giving, future needs, and your account balance for potential gaps.
    • Read through  Returning to MTD on Home Assignment and bring any questions to your Reliant MTD check-in.

    Family Needs

    • Consider any educational needs for your children during home assignment.
    • Start a bucket list of special things you want to do while in the US. Consider letting each family member pick an activity!

    3 months out

    Paperwork

    • Check passport/visa renewal dates. Does anything need to be renewed before or during HMA?
    • If you have/need an International Driving Permit, plan on renewing that while stateside.

    Reliant MTD Check-in

    • Schedule MTD Check-In with Reliant Intl staff to review your MTD Health and Strategy prior to HMA
    • Determine what MTD coaching you desire leading up to/during your time stateside.

    Medical

    • Schedule any medical appointments you want to have in the US. Schedule
    If you plan to schedule medical appointments while in the US, get them on the calendar! Try to schedule
    • them for the front end, in case follow-up visits are necessary.
    2 months outLists, Lists, Lists :
  • Make a list of any fun, bucket-list items you would like to do while you are in the US. Definitely include kids and consider letting everyone pick a fun thing.

    Leaving Logistics

    • Make a list of anything you need to set in order in your host country before leaving (and begin working on those items!)

    Finalize Materials and Strategy

    • Design an updated prayer card for your partners, update your presentation/create slides

    Final Pieces

    • Confirm logistics for your travel and transportation when you arrive in the US.
    • Schedule a Reliant debrief within the first 2-4 weeks of HMA.

    Begin Scheduling

    • Depending on your HMA plan, begin scheduling your first two weeks of MTD meetings.
    • If you don't need raise any funds, still plan on connecting with your partners to update them on what's happened, hear how they are, and continue to cultivate those relationships

    Leaving Well

    • Make time to meet with friends in your host country you want to spend time with before leaving.
    • Pick a couple of healthy individual and/or family rhythms you want to maintain during HMA and ask someone to help keep you accountable

  • Leave plenty of space on your calendar for meeting up with friends who you want to see one last time before you leave.
