The Affordable Care Act (ACA) signed into law in 2010 requires health plans to cover breastfeeding support and supplies.  The in-network provider of breast pumps for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans is through CareCentrix, which uses a special support website and phone line for plan members to order Medela breast pumps.  If you want another brand of breast pump, you may need to contact CareCentrix at 877-561-9910 to discuss your benefit options.

 Things to know before you request a breast pump:

  • When completeing completing the online request, you must answer "yes" to one of these options to be eligible for this benefit.

  • You will also need to provide the NPI (National Provider Identifier) for your Doctor.  This number is used by Medela to obtain a prescription for your breast pump. If you do do not know thE the NPI number you can do an online search for it or call your doctor's office and ask them for the number.
