The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires health plans to cover breastfeeding support and supplies. The in-network provider of breast pumps for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans is through CareCentrix, which uses a special support website and phone line for plan members to order Medela breast pumps. If you want another brand of breast pump, you may need to contact CareCentrix at 877-561-9910 to discuss your benefit options.

For Medela breast pumps visit medeladelivers.com or call 877-320-2301.

Things to know before you request a breast pump:

  • When completing the online request, you must answer "yes" to one of these options to be eligible for this benefit.
    1. I am registered with a hospital for delivery.
    2. I plan on registering for delivery.
    3. I plan on utilizing a birthing center or mid-wife.
    4. I have already delivered.
  • You will also need to provide the NPI (National Provider Identifier) for your Doctor. This number is used by Medela to obtain a prescription for your breast pump. If you do do not know the NPI number you can do an online search for it or call your doctor's office and ask them for the number.
  • Breast Pumps will be delivered to your home address. You will have the option to add on additional accessories for an extra charge. Some of these additional costs may be paid for using a HSA account. The IRS allows HSA accounts to be used towards  "the cost of breast pumps and supplies that assist lactation" see Publication 502 Medical and Dental Expenses.
