Stock donations are a valuable non-cash giving option that can offer potential benefits for donors. This section provides guidance on how Reliant processes stock gifts and how staff can assist donors who are interested in giving this way.

As with other non-cash gifts, staff should direct and encourage donors to consult a qualified tax advisor for guidance on their specific situation.

A: Yes! Reliant accepts donations of stock as a non-cash giving option.

If a donor is interested in this type of gift, you can direct them to Reliant’s stock giving resources for instructions and next steps.

Because stock donations can offer potential tax advantages, donors are encouraged to consult with a qualified tax advisor to understand how this type of gift may best benefit their individual situation.

A: If a donor expresses interest in giving a stock gift, you can direct them to Reliant’s stock giving resources, which include the information needed to complete the transaction, such as Reliant’s investment details.

Please also notify Donor Services at donor.services@reliant.org when you are aware of an upcoming stock gift. Stock donations are sometimes received without identifying information, and early communication helps ensure the gift is credited to the correct missionary MTD account or church/project fund.

A: In some cases, stock donations may be received without enough information to identify the donor or connect the gift to the correct missionary MTD account or church/project fund.

If a donor has not received confirmation, encourage them to contact Donor Services at donor.services@reliant.org so we can review the gift with them and provide any needed assistance.

A: In some cases, stock donations may be received without enough information to identify the donor or connect the gift to the correct missionary MTD account or church/project fund.

If you do not see the gift in Toolbox, please contact Donor Services at donor.services@reliant.org so we can begin reviewing the situation.

It is also helpful to encourage the donor to contact Donor Services directly, as we may need to confirm details with them in order to provide assistance.

user-b069a  For question #3 - I am doublechecking with Dave about the stock gifts appearing on the statements. In the past, I believe the only acknowledgement they received was the letter we sent as their receipt with the number of shares and the date they were received by us.  I looked at a donor from last year and found that the gift amount WAS included on his end of year statement and I don't think it is supposed to be, but perhaps those parameters have changed. Let me see what Dave says before you post this.

The other scenario for this is that the missionary heard from the donor and the MISSIONARY is not seeing the stock donation in his toolbox or staff net. Then the missionary needs to contact us because HE/SHE may be the key to tracking down the source of the donation (as in the case of the recent J & J stock).

    1. user-38542 How about these edits based on the email you received from Dave and your comments above?

Separate issue: If you have seen stock gifts appear on year end statements, this may be something we need to follow up with Tech about. I am unsure how to correct that issue for us.

user-b069a - yes, that looks great! I did send a ticket to support and copied Tom and Darlene so they would be aware of what's happening. I think the tech guys do the query for the statement now and they may not know that stock and gifts in kind should  not be included.

Actually, I think  gifts in kind can be included.

    1. Good discussion topic... When I looked at the 2017 numbers Darlene reconciled, I see for Holland that his official revenue total included the stock amounts. And her overall total is what Ben used to reconcile the YE statements. Dave's email indicated that shouldn't be the case though so I am confused.
