BCBS Global Core Medical Insurance for Overseas Travel

Domestic employees covered by Guidestone's domestic insurance are also covered when receiving medical care outside of the United States.  Instead of contacting Highmark for claims processing, contact BCBS Global Core about these coverages. To contact Global Core, use the number printed on the back of your medical card and have your identifying information available.

Does my GuideStone coverage work when I'm traveling overseas?

Yes.  When receiving medical care outside of the US, the plan switches from being administered and paid by Highmark BCBS to BCBS Global Core.

What network of coverage does GuideStone use overseas?

All claims outside of the United States are considered in-network. BCBS Global Core does have a preferred providers list for direct billing. For payments to providers that are not preferred, you will pay the provider directly and contact BSBSGlobal Core for reimbursement.

How do I contact the BCBS Global Core?

The 1-800 number is on the back of your current medical ID card (look for BCBSA Global Core 1-804-673-1177. You can also find contact information online at BCBSGlobalCore.com or through the BCBS Global® Core mobile app.

How do I file a claim for under BSBC Global Core?

For overseas medical care, you may need to pay upfront and then file a claim. You can either do this online at BCBSGlobalCore.com or through the BCBS Global® Core mobile app by selecting “Claims” and submitting your paper form or completing the online wizard. Make sure you also attach all of your bills along with your claim form.

For the most updated information on how to submit an international medical claim, please log into or create an account at BCBS Global Core’s website or mobile app.

Should I consider buying supplemental medical coverage for overseas travel?

Domestic employees covered on Reliant's Guidestone medical insurance plan are also automatically covered worldwide for overseas medical expenses with BCBS Global Core. Therefore, in most cases, supplemental travel medical coverage is unnecessary and might not cover any additional costs since these supplemental policies typically are the secondary insurance/payer if someone also has coverage through a primary insurance.

How are costs for medical care outside the US handled for Deductible/Out of Pocket purposes?

All international claims are treated as in-network. Deductibles for your existing US medical plan will apply to any medical treatment costs incurred overseas.  Expenses for overseas medical services will be merged with the employee's US deductible and out-of-pocket amounts for the calendar year.

* Unusual situations or medical care: Guidestone, Reliant's medical insurance provider, has confirmed they could not think of any situation where a standard medical expense incurred outside of the United States would not be considered in-network. If the employee's medical situation is unusual or if the medical treatment being received is not typically allowed under the Guidestones's plan guidelines, there may be very usual circumstances that medical care might be treated as out-of-network. In these unusual scenarios, we always recommend that the employee reach out to BCBS Global Core before receiving medical care to ensure the medical treatment will qualify as in-network.
