Standard Name: | Secondary Employment |

Scope: | All Reliant Staff and Associates |
Revision Date: | 7/3/2016 |
Last Review Date: | 4/12/2023 |
Reliant believes that the demands of ministry are such that it is extremely difficult, in most cases, for a full-time employee to perform a second job without serious impairment of work performance. Therefore, Reliant expressly reserves the right to restrict outside employment whenever such employment adversely affects job performance. In the event that an employee's job performance is adversely affected in either quality or quantity by secondary employment, the employee will be required to discontinue one of the jobs or change to a Part Time role with Reliant. Secondary employment is not an appropriate justification or excuse for tiredness, tardiness, absenteeism, poor performance, or an inability to work appropriate hours.

Hi Team! Can we also address in this policy secondary employment for another ministry other than your Reliant ministry? And, in general, when it is ok to accept money from sources other than Reliant. Let me give you a few real-life examples from over the years:
Example 1: Someone is receiving a part-time paycheck from Reliant to do an outreach and prayer ministry. They also receive a "gift" from a church to be their "missionary" to the local church body by leading small groups and teaching Sunday school classes. Is this ok or not ok?
Example 2: Someone is receiving a part-time paycheck from Reliant to be a missionary at their church and also is getting paid by their church to work in the coffee shop, set up events and other odd jobs. Is that ok?
Example 3: Someone is receiving a full-time paycheck from Reliant to help launch a church-plant and is also doing free-lance design work on the side. Is that ok?
Example 4: Someone is receiving a part-time paycheck from Reliant and is also working at Starbucks. (I know this is ok, but I think an example of what's acceptable could also be included in this policy.)
