A Personal Development Plan (PDP) is a tool used to examine personal growth areas and the goals/steps needed to address them. As leaders in ministry, personal development, and spiritual growth should always be a priority. Intentional personal growth leads to growth as a minister of the Gospel. Reliant has created a PDP template and included it in your job description form. To complete your PDP, you will need to find the PDP tab in your job description, fill out the chart, and get approval from your supervisor. The PDP template is divided into four parts. Each of these parts is there to help you determine areas of growth and the action steps you will take to address them.

  • Categories: These are areas you would like to grow and typically include things like: Personal, Spiritual, Leadership, Financial, Emotional, etc.).
  • Goal: What is a goal you would like to make to address the category or area of growth?
  • Actions Steps: What steps will you take this year to address this goal?
  • Frequency: How often will these action steps take place?

Once you have completed your PDP, you will need to get supervisor approval before submitting it to Reliant. Once Reliant has an approved PDP, it will be kept on file and used as a reference for ministry reimbursements that are developmental in nature.

Spiritual and Planning Retreats

A spiritual or planning retreat is an example of a reimbursable expense that is personal development in nature and must be on your PDP. At times, the demands of a ministry position will require intentional times of retreat for personal development and renewal or for planning. Having the opportunity to take a spiritual/ministry planning retreat is not a guaranteed benefit. Spiritual and Ministry Planning Retreats need to be pre-approved by a supervisor and added to a Personal Development Plan attached to a new job description at the beginning of each year. The retreat(s) should be required by the local ministry as part of developing the ministry of the field staff member.

Spiritual and Ministry Planning Retreats are not intended for general refreshment/relaxation/recharge time alone or with a spouse (Reliant's PTO policy better suits that purpose), nor are they considered an official Reliant sabbatical (see the Reliant sabbatical guidelines).

Expenses for Spiritual and Ministry Planning Retreats are not submitted through a normal expense submission form. A separate Spiritual and Ministry Planning Retreat Expense Submission form is needed.
