We believe that our best response to a crisis is to prevent it from ever happening.  Therefore, we seek to train our team members exceptionally well.  No matter the organizational preparation, our team members will be the first to encounter a crisis and be affected the most by it.  Because our team members are our priority over our operations, we seek to equip them to make wise choices and respond properly beyond simple adherence to policies.

It is Reliant’s intention that all our international staff are adequately trained in order to best prepare them for international service.  All team members traveling short-term or long-term must meet a minimum travel safety training requirement before the Reliant central office will authorize travel overseas.  Any additional security trainings will be based on the risk profile of the location.

Reliant Risk Levels

Reliant's Risk Levels

  • Basic Threat: Any moderate risk factors limited or temporary. Free movement, free access to basic goods, free expression of ministry/reason in the country, stable government and economy. Easy entry requirements for all Americans. (ex. Canada)
  • Moderate Threat: Several moderate risk factors and/or a high risk factor recent, imminent, or ongoing are at play.
  • High Threat: Several high risks recent, imminent, or ongoing and/or an extreme risk factor are at play. See International Risk Tolerance)
  • Extreme Threat: Several extreme risk factors under the extreme category are recent, imminent, or ongoing. (Reliant is unable to accommodate extreme threat locations at this time. See Countries with extreme threat level.)

Basic

Each team member is required to complete an online travel safety course. Reliant also recommends that the team member become familiar with Color Codes for Situational Awareness. A partner ministry may require additional training at their discretion.

Training Options:

Concilium Online Travel Safety Course - Follow the instructions to join the Reliant learning group, and the course will be automatically assigned.

Partner-Approved Alternative

Moderate

Reliant requires that each team member attend a higher-level security training appropriate for their location. Reliant will work in coordination with partnerships who will help to identify what type of training is needed.

Training Options:

Concilium's 3-day CAST Training

Crisis Consulting International Field Security Seminar

CriCon Field Security Seminar (hosted by CIT and can be paired with Cross-cultural training)

Partner-Approved Alternative

High

Reliant requires attendance of an in-person security crisis response training. Reliant would also require additional high threat crisis training that will be dependent on the risks of the location.

Training Options:

Concilium's 3-day CAST Training

Crisis Consulting International Field Security Seminar

CriCon Field Security Seminar (hosted by CIT and can be paired with Cross-cultural training)

Concilium CAST Field Security Training

Concilium HEAT (Hostile Environment Awareness Training)

Concilium RACE (Restricted Access Complex Engagement)

Partner-Approved Alternative

For short-term travel (such as mission trips), Reliant recommends all team members watch a travel safety training video (or approved equivalent) before traveling. We also want all team members to acknowledge the security warnings for their country before they leave.

Reliant requires all trips traveling to a Moderate risk level or higher to watch the travel safety training video, to register with the U.S. embassy and sign up to receive in-country alerts through https://step.state.gov/step/ and to be familiar with Color Codes for Situational Awareness.
