Once a year, Reliant Missionaries and Supervisors evaluate their jobs and review their performances. After evaluations are completed, Reliant program team leads work together with Supervisors to set updated salaries for the coming year. |
This year, we are introducing a new, updated review. Here are a few distinctive to this new process. - This document will be a shared resource between the Missionary and their Supervisor.
- The Missionary will complete their portion, and then share this resource with their Supervisor to fill out their portion.
- Pastors and local church board members, you will share this with both your supervisor and your church personnel committee.
- The Supervisor or Missionary will share this Google Sheet with their program team at either collegiate.program@reliant.org or us@reliant.org.

- Both Missionaries and Supervisors can review this entire page so that they are ready to complete the Annual Review when it is sent to them.
- Missionaries, watch your Reliant email inbox for an email from learn@reliant.org with a link to the Annual Review that will come around Monday, March 7.
Spring 2022 Updates

Annual Review
Some significant changes are coming to the Performance Evaluation, now called "Annual Review." The most notable difference is that the Missionary now has a central role in the Annual Review. They will initially complete a Missionary Input tab, which allows them to do a self-assessment on their performance of MTD, Ministry Duties, Ministry Skills, and Character. They will also share their accomplishments over the past year and goals for the following year.
The new Annual Review can be tailored to the job role. Like the previous version, the Missionary will add five to seven of their most significant ministry duties to the Review. However, then they can now select five ministry skills from a list (or add skills not on the list) that are most necessary for their role and complete a self-assessment on those skills.
The rating scales have also been changed on the new Annual Review to more simplified language.
After the Missionary completes their portion, they will share it with their supervisors and/or other leaders who will complete the Annual Review. The Supervisor should review the Missionary Input tab and then fill out the Supervisor Input tab. The Missionary will be able to see what the Supervisor entered in the Annual Review.
Annual Review Instructions
A video tutorial will be available on LEARN for Missionaries and Supervisors to view before starting their portions of the Annual Review.
Missionary- Find your most current Job Description. You will be referring to it as you complete the Missionary Input portion of the Annual Review.
- In your Reliant email inbox, find the email from learn@reliant.org with the link to the Annual Review Course on LEARN.
- Once you log in to LEARN, go to the Annual Review Course to access the Annual Review Google Sheet.
- Click on the Annual Review Link and make a copy of the Google Sheet.
- Rename the Google Sheet to "2022, Spring Annual Review (Last name, First Name)".
- Review the Missionary Input tab. You will need to complete all of the boxes highlighted in green. Once you complete the field, it will no longer be green.
Ministry Team Development Section - If needed, access your giving information here (https://www.gcmapp.net/coachnet/home.aspx).
- Notice that the rating boxes have small arrows to the right. Click on an arrow to select an option in the dropdown.
Ministry Duties Section - Refer to your current job description and enter 5 to 7 of your most significant ministry duties in the column labeled "Ministry Job Description."
- Use the dropdown arrows in the boxes in the Self-Assessment column to choose the rating that best describes your performance over the last year.
Ministry Skills Section - If needed, you can review the Ministry Skills tab to see the list of skills and their definitions.
- In the section, you can use the dropdown arrow to select skills that are most necessary for your role. Once you choose a skill from the list, the definition will automatically populate below.
- If you'd like to add a skill that isn't on the list, you can select "Other" from the dropdown and then type the name of the skill and a short definition in the box below.
- After choosing a skill, use the dropdown arrows in the Self-Assessment column to select a rating. Then provide a short explanation for your self-assessment.
Character Section - Use the dropdown arrows in the boxes in the Self-Assessment column to choose the rating that best describes each area of your character development.
Accomplishments Section - Write down some of the accomplishments you and your team had over the last year.
Look Forward Section - Answer the questions about goals you have for the upcoming year.
Missionary Job Description - After looking at your job description, select from the dropdown the appropriate statement. You can add comments in the box to the right.
When complete, use the Share button in the upper right-hand corner and share the document with your Supervisor and any other person who will be completing your Annual Review. |
SupervisorAfter completing the Supervisor section of the Annual Review, it is strongly recommended that you meet with the Missionary and go over your assessment and feedback with them. |
The Missionary should share the Google Sheet with you, so please watch your email for that email notification.
- Once you access the Google Sheet, first review the Missionary Input tab to see how the Missionary completed their self-assessment and their comments.
- Go to the Supervisor Input tab. You will need to complete all of the boxes highlighted in yellow. Once you complete the field, it will no longer be yellow.
Ministry Team Development Section - If needed, access the Missionary's giving information here (https://www.gcmapp.net/coachnet/home.aspx).
- After checking what the Missionary wrote on the Missionary Input tab for this section, provide any feedback regarding their MTD Duties.
Ministry Duties Section - The Ministry Duties will automatically populate after the Missionary completes this section on the Missionary Input tab.
- Use the dropdown arrows in the boxes in the Assessment column to choose the rating that best describes their performance over the last year.
- Notice that the rating boxes have small arrows to the right. Click on an arrow to select an option in the dropdown.
- Make sure you add your comments.
Ministry Skills Section - The Ministry Skills and definitions will automatically populate after the Missionary completes this section on the Missionary Input tab.
- Use the dropdown arrows in the Assessment column to select a rating. Then provide a short explanation for your assessment.
Character Section - Review what the Missionary wrote on the Missionary Input tab and provide comments or feedback.
Accomplishments Section - Review what the Missionary wrote on the Missionary Input tab in this section. You can provide additional comments about what they wrote as an accomplishment or add other achievements you observed over the last year.
Look Forward Section - Review what the Missionary wrote on the Missionary Input tab in this section, and provide input on the goals they set.
Missionary Job Description - This section will automatically populate with what the Missionary wrote on their input tab. Please discuss any changes to the job description with the Missionary.
- If changes need to be made to the Missionary's Staff Level, please check the box in this section. You can also go to the linked Solomon page for instructions on starting the process with Central on changing Staff Levels.
When complete, submit Annual Review by clicking on the "Share" button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and entering either us@reliant.org for the U.S. Churches and Ministries Program or collegiate.program@reliant.org for the Collegiate Program. Missionary Staff Level Updates
The titles and descriptions for Missionary Staff Levels have been updated for 2022. The new levels align closely with the previous levels, but the descriptions focus more on the responsibilities and experience required for the role. The transition to the new staff levels will occur over the next several months.
Missionary Staff Level Transition
The staff level for U.S.-based, career missionaries will automatically convert from the current levels to the new level names:

The salary ranges will also transfer over. (E.g., Missionary Staff 2 range will be the same as the Level 2 range for 2022.)
Supervisors, as part of the Annual Review, you will be asked if you would like to update the Staff Level for the Missionary. Please make sure that you take some time to review the new Missionary Staff Levels and follow the instructions on the Annual Review for notifying Reliant that you'd like to make a change. Job Description Template
In addition, Reliant will be transitioning to a new process to maintain Job Descriptions for all Missionaries and Associates. You can find more details about the transition here (Missionary Job Description Process). While it is not mandatory to update your Job Description during the Annual Review season, it may make sense to do it now as you will be asked to refer to your Job Description as part of the Missionary Input stage of the Review.
