After you have been notified that you have been auto-enrolled for the Principal 401(k) plan you will need to follow these steps to log in to your account for the first time.  

Step-by-step guide

1. Go to www.principal.com
2. Click on the Log In button and choose Personal as the login type.

3. Select the Register Now option.

4. Enter your first name, last name, date of birth, and Reliant's ID number (434798)

5. The next page will ask you a few questions to verify your identity, which are administered by a trusted third-party.  Below are example questions like those you may see.

6. Select your username and password and provide your email address.  This must be your Reliant email address. **Right Barb???**

7. Select customer service questions which are needed to verify your identity should you call customer service.

8. You will then receive a confirmation screen.  Now is a good time to check your email for the confirmation email and verify your email address.  You can now login using your new username and password and finish setting up your account.

9. Return to the login page and enter your Username.

10. You will now see a sample login image and phrase.  After you enter your password, you will be directed to select a personal login image and phrase.

11. Your login image and phrase is an additional security measure that helps protect you against fake/phishing sites. If you want to keep the first option shown, click “Continue with this Image and Phrase” If you don’t like it, click “Get a Different Image and Phrase” until you see an option you want to select.  Note: You do not need to enter your password on this page. The combination of your image and phrase is randomly generated to further increase security. You may not enter your own phrase.

12. Next, you will need to select three security questions so that you can verify your identity in case you forget your username or password.

13. On the last page, you will need to read the terms and consent to do business electronically in order to access your account information online. 
14. You can now log in and mange your account online.  Take a minute to designate a beneficiary and make any changes to your contributions or investments.  Also, check out the resources available like My Virtual Coach.
