Misisonary Field Staff

Missionary Staff 1

Missionary Staff 1 generally have entry level responsibilities with 0-4 years of ministry experience and less spiritual maturity as it relates to deacon or elder level maturity. Responsibility generally consists of leading a small group or ministry team of less than 15 people. Has limited decision making ability related to things such as budgets, church or ministry direction, and has direct management and supervision in their job and tasks.

Missionary Staff 2

Missionary Staff 2 generally have a mid to high level of responsibility and generally are progressing toward deacon or elder level maturity. May lead multiple small groups or ministry teams of 10+ people, may coach small groups or ministry leaders, or may lead a larger group of 30 or more. May be supervising other volunteers or volunteer teams or another staff member. Typically has at least 3 years of significant experience in ministry and is managed and supervised by senior staff or pastoral team.

Missionary Staff 3

A Missionary Staff 3 tends to have a high level of responsibility and often meet the qualifications of a deacon. Coaches other leaders (whether volunteers or teams). Typically supervises other staff or leads a main ministry or department within the church or ministry. Typically has at least 6 years of growing experience and is managed by the pastoral or leadership team of the ministry. In church settings these missionaries are often licensed or commissioned ministers, but generally not an elder or ordained pastor.

Minister 1

A Minister 1 tends to have responsibility for the spiritual leadership and welfare of the church and its members as a member of the leadership team. Provides leadership for and actively participates in worship, education, discipleship and evangelism for the spiritual life and growth of members. May carry financial accountability of the church as part of a leadership structure. May supervise staff or lead a significant ministry within a church as a member of the overall leadership team. Typically Minister 1 is a female Reliant missionary who has been commissioned into a level of leadership similar to a Pastor in a church or ministry who does not ordain women.

Field Manager 1

A Field Manager, though a minister of the gospel, would not be an elder or pastor of the church or ministry, but is someone who takes on comparable responsibility for a significant department or ministry area or areas within a ministry. This may be a leader within a gospel-centered non-profit or a leader within a church setting that deals more with the administration of the church. Being a Field Manager may involve supervising staff, managing budgets and heading organizational initiatives.

Other Staff Levels

Interns

Intern 1 (1-4 months -
Minister 3

In addition to Minister 2 requirements, the Minister 3 is generally a senior or seasoned minister of the gospel who has been in a Minister 1 or 2 type role for a minimum of 10 years. This minister has probably been involved with several church plants or coaches several ministers within a  network or group of churches. They may be on church network boards or provide oversight for groups of churches in this way.

Field Manager 3 

In addition to Field Manager 2 responsibilities, the Field Manager 3, probably leads a large, multi-faceted ministry, a group of churches or a region. They have most likely been in a Field Manager-type role for at least 10 years. These Field Managers may be serving on one or multiple church or ministry boards.

Field Director

Field Director is designed for those who have been serving in ministry for 10 or more years, and are now overseeing a group of churches, pastors or ministries. These directors typically do not have day-to-day ministry roles, but are giving oversight to a larger ministry, network or denomination of churches.

Missionary Interns

This is typically for a student  missionary in a period of preparation and training while both the individual and the organization consider a possible longer-term commitment. They are typically missionaries interns in a specific 3 three- to four- 4 month ministry internship program.

5-24 months - Long term)

This is for a missionary in ministry worker in a period of preparation and training while both the individual and the organization consider a long-term commitment. This can also be missionaries interns in a specific one- or two-year program. These interns may be paid at an Intern level or may be paid in proportion to long-term staff levels, depending on the nature of their ministry program, the work they are doing, their experience, education, etc.
