Some of the calculations for Support Goals are quite complex. This page exists to explain some of themthem.

Monthly Costs

UI Expand
titleSalary

The salary starts with your maximum approved salary, and ends with what select at that amount or less if you choose to not accept the maximum salary.  The annual amount is then monthlitized for the goal.

If you are in a fixed-term program, the monthlitized amount is multiplied by the number of months in your program.

One-Time Costs

One-time costs very dramatically from program to program. They range from training costs, to mission trips, to continuing education, to "you name it". If it is a cost that only happens once per program it will be in this section.

Fees

UI Expand
titleAdministrative Fee

We'll start by saying that Reliant has different administrative fees for different programs.   The amount of the administrative fee in the support goal will in fact more than the base amount.  This because the goal needs to account for the fee itself.

This type of calculation is called a geometric series. The fee is added to the goal, which in turn means a little more funds need to be raised, which makes the goal a tiny bit higher, which requires even a tiny bit more etc. It theoretically runs on infinitely, but as you go further the amounts get smaller and smaller up until you reach a negligible amount being added.  In our case, we can stop when rounding to the nearest cent doesn't affect the amount. Here's an example with an adminstrative fee of 10% and an amount of $10,000 for easy math.

FeeAmount being processedAmount of fee
10% $10,000.00 $             1,000.00000
10% $  1,000.00 $                100.00000
10% $     100.00 $                  10.00000
10% $       10.00 $                    1.00000
10% $         1.00 $                    0.10000
10% $         0.10 $                    0.01000
10% $         0.01 $                    0.00100
10% $         0.00 $                    0.00010
10% $         0.00 $                    0.00001

 $             1,111.11111

 $                  1,111.11

Tip

Rest assured; this seemingly odd calculation is only there to make sure that the support goal has staff raise enough funds to cover the fee. It is not a hard amount being charged. The account will only ever actually be charged the 10% on what actually comes in.

Note

Some programs have a minimum administrative fee. If you enter a salary of $1, and you still see an administrative fee that is a nice round number, like $250. This is likely your program's minimum administrative fee.

titleCredit Card Fee

Credit card fees exist to cover the costs charged by Reliant's payment processor for transactions involving credit cards.
