MTD Job Description

The following general job description applies to all GCM field staff who are assigned MTD responsibilities. For most GCM field staff, this will serve as the exclusive or primary job duties for their initial tenure (“Initial MTD Phase”) until the related GCM ministry account is fully funded (“Release to Assignment”).

Once engaged in a local church or ministry assignment, GCM staff members must maintain these MTD responsibilities alongside their other primary responsibilities. Typical expectations for “maintaining” a GCM ministry team is approximately 10% of overall hours; averaging 4-5 hours a week for a fulltime employee.

Goal for Ministry Team Development

A fully-funded GCM ministry account.

Summary of Responsibilities

To develop and cultivate a ministry team for GCM using the Ministry Team Development process. The development process requires the GCM missionary: to connect with potential partners, to communicate the ministry vision, to ask directly for donor involvement and commitment. The cultivation process requires the GCM missionary to grow a positive relationship with GCM donors and to regularly report on the state of the ministry.

Represent GCM

a.1. Be an ambassador for a GCM-funded ministry.
a.2. Become skilled at communicating a ministry vision.
a.3. Know how to represent GCM as a non-profit ministry legally, professionally, and appropriately for the Christian character of the organization.
a.4. Maintain current training on the MTD process as provided by GCM.

Connect, Communicate, and Ask

b.5. Initiate connections (via phone, e-mail, etc) to secure ministry team presentation appointments.
b.6. Conduct primarily face-to-face, but also phone, online or written appointments to present the ministry vision and GCM’s role in that mission.
b.7. Directly ask prospective ministry partners to give financially to GCM on your behalf.
b.8. Directly ask prospective ministry partners to refer you to others.
b.9. Ask prospective ministry partners for other commitments in prayer, time, or resources.
b.10.Follow through on referral connections and repeat the process.
b.11.Maintain performance benchmarks as outlined in MTD Action Plan.

Cultivate GCM Partners

c.12.Report regularly to GCM Partners about the ministry to which they are donating, which may include: letters, email, blog updates, phone calls, social media, and personal visits.
c.13.Build relationships with current and prospective donors.
c.14.Ask current GCM partners to consider increasing their involvement.
c.15.Communicate with lapsed ministry partners and assist in keeping their giving current.

Record and Report

d.16.Meet regularly with assigned MTD coach.
d.17.Submit to MTD coach advice, supervision, and instruction on behalf of GCM.
d.18.If a separate ministry supervisor is assigned, keep supervisor apprised of MTD responsibilities.
d.19.Maintain organizational records (e.g. database) of potential partners—including contact information, stage in MTD process, and record of decision.
d.20.Submit required weekly MTD reports in a timely fashion.
d.21.Regularly (at least weekly) check Staffnet for updates
d.22.Maintain active e-mail address and complete administrative responses as required for employment.
d.23.Assist GCM to keep up-to-date records on donor information.
d.24.Attend required MTD training conferences (or apply and receive an exception).

Pray and Plan and Rest

e.25.Spend regular time in prayer for current and future donor team.
e.26.Seek growth in Christian character as it relates to the MTD process and ministry.
e.27.Build regular rhythms of spiritual care and rest appropriately.
