What is a Waive of Insurance?

When you are Benefits Eligible, you will be offered insurance by Reliant.   This an offer that is regulated by governmental codes of the Affordable Care Act.   When you accept insurance coverage through another person’s employment, you will be asked to “waive” your Reliant offer of insurance.  Reliant and its insurance providers have obligations to confirm that you are covered by allowable insurances.

Why do I need to submit a Waive Form when our family is covered by Reliant’s International Insurance?

When  the the primary policy holder of your insurance is your Reliant employed spouse, you do need to submit a waiver . It may see counter-intuitive, yet it’s needed, because you are technically waiving your personal offer to participate on your spouses plan.  When for your individual offer of coverage as an employee, separate from your spouse. When you and your spouse are both employed by Reliant, you have the option of choosing coverage as two individual employees, or as family unit.   (No waive form is needed if you each have your individual policies.) This will need to be renewed each year, and can be done by marking that selection on the annual Open Enrollment form.

We encourage you to identify what is most beneficial for your family as you select your plans.  When choosing one of the options that insures you as a family unit, one spouse carries the Insuranceinsurance, and the other spouse waives insurance.  Usually we need the policy holder to also be 1st-payReliant would prefer that the pay first spouse be the primary insured
