Aetna Eligibility

International workers who are employed at 30 or more hours per week are eligible to enroll in Reliant's current International Insurance plan prior to departing for their international ministry location. This coverage continues after an international worker returns to the U.S. (with the intent of staying in the U.S.). 

Initial Hire and Enrollment

The enrollment form that needs to be submitted to Aetna must be completed in the weeks leading up to your hire date.  

We understand that enrollment choices may change during the MTD season; any changes in your enrollment wishes or your family structure should also be sent to international@reliant.org.

All notifications of enrollment, waivers, or changes need to be submitted ten days before the initial hire date to ensure timely enrollment.  After you are enrolled, you will receive an Aetna Welcome Email with your member ID information to access your online account. From there, you may print the cards as needed. Otherwise, the cards will be mailed, and it could take up to eight weeks to receive them.

Questions you may have about your initial enrollment prior to being hired will be handled by international@reliant.org.  

When an international worker is eligible, enroll by emailing international@reliant.org to request the form from Docusign. 

Qualifying Events and Changes to the Plan

Changes to your enrollment choices are allowed when you experience a qualifying event:

  • change of employment (i.e. becoming benefits-eligible when being hired at PT-30 or FT status)
  • birth, death, or adoption placement of a child or spouse
  • marriage
  • Loss of previous coverage due to a spouse or parent's loss of employment or eligibility or turning 26 and losing coverage through a parent's plan

Notify Reliant within 20 days of a qualifying event to enroll a spouse/dependent in coverage

Eligible employees and dependents requesting coverage during the policy year must enroll within 30 days of the date of the qualifying event (birth, marriage, status change, loss of coverage from parent/spouse's employer, etc.)  To ensure adequate time for processing, please notify Reliant within 20 days of a qualifying event to enroll, remove or change coverage for yourself, a spouse, or a dependent. 

Requests for enrollment that are received by Reliant in time to process within the initial 30 days of eligibility will require a Health Statement for coverage consideration.  Coverage is not guaranteed and is subject to underwriting approval in order for the enrollment to be approved.

When making changes, please email benefits@reliant.org, and the Benefits Team will give you additional instructions based on what type of change you are making.

Open Enrollment

Once every year, international workers have a limited 2-3 week open enrollment window. During this period, any international worker can enroll in or make changes to their international insurance coverage level. The only other time an international worker can make a change is if they experience a qualifying event. Please look for communication from Reliant about Open Enrollment in October and November each year.
