Some people are receiving errors when trying to log into google drive or open up google drive forms.  A common error is this YOU NEED PERMISSION ERROR.   Your browser is trying to open the form using a personal google account that it remembers (even if you have already logged out of all personal accounts).  Here are some tips to get around it. 

Problem

You try to click a link or use a form for Reliant, but you are receiving a "You Need Permission" error.

Solution

Switch to your @reliant.org account.

This error is nearly always because you are signed in using a personal Gmail account or a another Google account that is not your @reliant.org account.

You need to be signed in with your @reliant.org account to use this link.  Most Reliant resources for our staff are set to be available to "Anyone with a @reliant.org account."

Simple: Sign Out and Sign In to Your Reliant Account

You can fully sign out of your current account, and sign in using your Reliant account.

This requires you later to sign out of Reliant and sign back in.

Quick Workaround: Private or Incognito Window

To quickly get temporary access without signing out of your current gmail account

1. Open a new browser window in private mode.  This is called Incognito (Chrome) mode or Private (Safari) mode, InPrivate mode (Internet Explorer), etc. A new window in this mode is automatically not signed in to any service.
   
2. Click the link again to open it here, or copy and paste the address to this window
3. Use your @reliant.org address to sign in. 
   
   
   

When you close this browser window, you will lose your sign-in. For a better ongoing solution:

Manage your accounts with Two Browsers or Two Browser Profiles

Web browsers remember when you are signed into a Google account and keep you signed in. But many people want to use two Google accounts that are both signed in.

You can use Google's Switch Accounts options (see below), or you can manually keep your accounts separate by using different browsers or browser profiles.

Use Two Browsers

Example:

• Use Internet Explorer while being signed in to your personal gmail account.
• Use Google Chrome while being signed in to your @reliant.org Google account.

Each browser will remain signed in the one account you signed in. When you want to use a link from Reliant, you use it in the browser that is already signed in.

Use Two User Profiles: Chrome User Profiles

Use Chrome but switch the browser between your accounts.

Use Settings > Add Person to get set it up.

Use Switch Person to flip back and forth.

Best Solution: Sign in to Multiple Accounts Using Google

For most services like Gmail, Google Drive and others, Google allows users to sign-in to multiple accounts and switch between them as needed.

1. Switch Accounts 
    
2. Sign in to another account
   

Once you are signed into up both accounts, you can switch at will.

Frequently Asked Questions

I signed in on my Reliant account but when I go click the link I am still getting the same error.

Make sure the link is opening in the browser where you signed in. Sometimes links from email or websites will open a new tab in a window you didn't intend.

To make sure, you can copy the link, and paste the link manually into the correct web browser address bar.
