To ensure that Reliant staff have appropriate auto insurance coverage when driving for work-related purposes, we will be collecting copies of auto insurance policy cards for Reliant staff who drive for ministry-related work. Please closely review the information below.
All Reliant staff, associates (including pre-hire associates), and volunteers who drive for ministry-related work must carry minimum bodily injury liability coverage of $50,000/$100,000 on their personal auto insurance policy.
For International Workers: Reliant staff and associates working outside of the United States must acquire at least the locally mandated minimum amount of auto insurance coverage if they own a vehicle registered in that country.
How do I know if I drive for ministry-related work?
- Do you do any of the following regularly?
- Drive to multiple MTD appointments during the day
- Drive from your work location to work-related offsite meetings, including MTD appointments, discipleship meetings, Bible studies, etc.
- Run errands on behalf of church/ministry
- Drive with church congregants, small group attendees, ministry clients, etc. in your vehicle for church- or ministry-related purposes
- Have you submitted a reimbursement for mileage as a driver in the last 90 days?
- Do you receive a Ministry Expense Bonus for mileage?
If you answer "YES" to any of the above, then you drive for ministry-related work.
Note: Driving from home to a work location does not count as "driving for ministry-related work." This would generally be considered commuting to work.
How do I know if my personal auto insurance policy meets Reliant's minimum requirements?
- To find your Body Injury Liability coverage, you can do one of the following:
- Call your auto insurance agent
- Review your Declarations Page in your policy documents
- Log into your auto insurance carrier's website and look for your policy coverage
- The minimum Bodily Injury Liability coverage requirement is $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. This typically is written out as $50,000/$100,000.
I checked my auto insurance policy, and my limits are below Reliant's requirements. What should I do?
- Since most states have minimum auto insurance requirements that are not much less than Reliant's (and some are the same), you likely will not need to increase your coverage by much. However, any coverage change may increase your premiums.
- Contact your insurance agent or go to your insurance carrier's website to find out how adjusting your coverage will affect your premiums.
- You will have three months to meet this requirement. If you haven't, you can consider doing the following:
- If you have not calculated mileage (which includes fuel and the costs of operating a vehicle, like insurance and maintenance) into your Ministry Expense Bonus, you may want to adjust your ME Bonus (see Reimbursement and Expense Recovery Bonus Standard#RecurringExpenses).
- You may want to shop around for a different auto insurance carrier. Sometimes you can find better rates with another company.
The increase in my premiums is going to cause financial hardship for me or my family. What can I do?
- Reach out to your Program Team Liaison.
