About the organization
GuideStar is an online database of nonprofits. It started in 1994 as Philanthropic Research, Inc. and has become a recognized non-profit database used by a variety of corporate clients and the IRS. In recent years, GuideStar has positioned itself as an advocacy organization for charities, especially in battling donor perceptions of administrative costs as always bad. They are one of the founders of the Charting Impact Statements.
Value to Reliant
Guidestar is used by corporate clients and others as a public list of valid charities, sometimes for matching programs. It's currently used by Network for Good and Amazon Smile among others.
