Personal Items: Recommended for all workers when not at home

These are small items that can make a big difference if you experience an emergency, even just being out and about in your city. Keep them in your wallet, purse, or backpack.

First Aid Kit: All workers should keep at home and in vehicle

A well-stocked first aid kit should include supplies for treating minor cuts, scrapes, burns, sprains, and other common injuries. You can purchase an International First Aid Kit for starters.

Basic First Aid Supplies

  • Adhesive bandages (various sizes)
  • Sterile gauze pads
  • Rolled gauze
  • Medical tape
  • Elastic bandage (ACE wrap)
  • Cotton balls or cotton-tipped swabs

Cleaning & Protection

  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Alcohol wipes
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Disposable nitrile gloves
  • Saline solution or sterile eye wash

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Safety pins
  • Instant cold pack
  • Digital thermometer

Medications

  • Pain reliever (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin*)
  • Antihistamine (for allergic reactions)
  • Hydrocortisone cream
  • Antacid
  • Anti-diarrheal medication

Shelter-in-Place Kit: Keep at home when crisis is imminent

A shelter-in-place kit should provide adequate resources for 3-5 days if you are stranded at home or it would be dangerous to leave.

  • Five days adequate food supply (canned/dry goods, WISE, protein bars)
  • Approximately 25-30 liters of NON-potable water per person
  • Approximately 10 liters of potable water per person
  • Water purification method (filter, life straw, iodine tabs)
  • First-aid kit/meds (anti-diarrheal, NSAIDs, antibiotics)
  • Spare/backup butane tank or fuel source
  • Butane lighter or waterproof matches
  • Solar or crank-powered battery cell with USB output/charging
  • LED flashlights or lanterns (w/ extra batteries available)
  • Duct tape*
  • 8-10 large plastic trash bags*
    • *For sealing window/door openings

Optional:

  • Morale boosters (board games, deck of cards, coffee, adult beverages, candy, etc.)
  • 200+ ft Para-cord; 50+ ft rope
  • Candles (not recommended for households with young children)
  • An adequate supply of diapers, baby wipes, baby food, etc
  • 1 large, durable plastic container, barrel, or cooler (to hold the contents of the SIP kit supplies)
Vehicle Supplies: Required when traveling in remote areas

Always carry adequate supplies when traveling by car through remote areas. These items will be important if you are stranded, even just with a flat tire!

  • Large medical/first aid kit including various bandages, medicines, sterile pads/wipes, etc.
  • Large roll of Duct Tape
  • Lantern (or heavy duty flashlight)
  • Additional Chem Lights/glow sticks
  • Multi-tool or knife
  • Mylar blanket/emergency blanket
  • Force multiplier for breaking glass and self-defense (Large screwdriver, tire tool, crow bar, etc.)
  • Additional food/snacks – candy bars, snack bars, etc.
  • Extra bottled water
  • Extra clothes or T-shirt
  • Extra medications (as appropriate)

Optional:

  • 20-30 feet of 550 cord
  • Seatbelt cutter
  • SOG entrenching tool
  • GPS
  • Sewing kit
  • Folding litter for transporting injured team members
  • Maps of city/region/country
  • SOG folding saw

Go Bag: Required when Evacuation becomes possible

Minimum Requirements

  • Emergency evacuation money
  • Additional communication device, preferably a GPS satellite communicator (such as a Garmin InReach device) for each traveling group, not necessarily for each individual or household (additional to your primary communication device like a cell phone)
  • IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) including personal prescriptions and emergency medicines, basic trauma items and a tourniquet
  • Small flashlight
  • Copies of ID and passport
  • Laminated emergency contact card & emergency contact information
  • Any type of Force Multiplier (hammer, club, pepper spray, knife, etc) 

Optional

  • 3-day supply of any prescription medications
  • Chem light
  • Signaling device such as a mirror and whistle
  • Compass
  • Backup battery or solar cell for charging electronics
