What is the Diversity Scholarship?

The Reliant Board and many of our current and past missionaries have been having discussions about raising support as a ministry worker of color. We have had discussions about how we can grow in how we initially train our missionaries, as well as how we coach and help sustain missionaries. As part of that discussion, one important piece of information that came out of that time was supporting missionaries in their initial support-raising season. We recognize that there are often cultural barriers that can cause MTD to be more challenging. As one of our initial steps, the board has set aside scholarship money for Reliant to be able to help missionaries in their initial MTD.

Who is the scholarship offered to?

This scholarship is offered to anyone in a support-based position with Reliant who self-selects that they come from an ethnic minority background AND opts into the scholarship.

What amount is the scholarship?

The scholarship amount is up to $2,000, which will be transferred into the field worker's account.

Depending on the field worker's status, that amount may be transferred all at once at hire or in $500 increments over time. 

Fixed-term field workers (residents, interns, fellows, apprentices, etc.) are eligible to receive a one-time transfer of either $1000 or $2000 in Diversity Scholarship funds depending on their length of term and hours of employment. See the table below for the policy guidelines. Because there are often employment parameters that don't match one of the described criteria perfectly, Fixed Term will assess each situation on an individual basis before making scholarship transfers.

Goals less than $10,000 may not be eligible for the scholarship or may be eligible for a lesser scholarship amount. Reliant will evaluate the individual's situation on a case-by-case basis.

*Part-time, fixed-term field workers doing a 15-month or less first-year term who extend for an additional year are eligible to receive another $1000 for a maximum of $2000 in Diversity Scholarship funds.
**The maximum Diversity Scholarship funds for a single Reliant employee is $2000 in total.
