Q: A donor prefers to give by check. What do I do?

A: First, remember to thank them!

• • Make sure the check is made out to Reliant with your name and fund number included in the memo line. 
  • Checks should be mailed to Reliant directly from the donor when possible.  
    • Donors can set up a new recurring gift on Reliant.org and select Check by Mail as the payment type. They can send the check with a printout from Reliant.org. 
    • Donors can fill out the giving card and send it with the check. 
  • If the check gift is a new recurring gift, you need to complete the New Gift Form on Staffnet so that the gift can be correctly directed to the account you are responsible for. Email the form to giftservices@reliant.org ideally before the check arrives at Reliant. 

Q: What if the donor prefers to give the first check directly to me? 

A: Send the check to Reliant with a New Gift Form. 

• • If the check is a new recurring gift, be sure to complete the New Gift Form on Staffnet so that the gift can be correctly directed to the account you are responsible for. Print and send the form with the check to Reliant. 
  • If the donor completed a giving card, use the information to complete a New Gift Form on Staffnet. Print and send the form with the check Reliant. It's easier for our Gift Services team to enter the typed information than the handwritten information.

  • Send special one-time gift checks to Reliant with your name and fund number on the memo line of the check. 

Q: When are check gifts usually processed?

A: Waiting on Tatiana for the more updated COVID response. This is outdated. Checks are usually processed by our Gift Services team within the week they are received. Everything received through Thursday afternoon is processed by Friday, and Friday afternoon mail is processed by Tuesday. However, there are sometimes post office delays. If a gift is going through a third party (bank, foundation, etc.), that could also cause a delay.

Q: Can I send Reliant more than one check and New Gift Form at a time?

A: Yes. You can usually fit four New Gift Forms and four checks in an envelope for the cost of a regular stamp. If you have more than four checks, consider using a large envelope, which costs less than sending multiple smaller envelopes. 

Q: Where do I send the checks and New Gift Forms?

Q: What if the check is made out to me instead of Reliant?

A: First, ask them to rewrite it to Reliant. If you can’t get them to re-write it...
