What is available during Open Enrollment?
During Open Enrollment, you may start, stop or change your Voluntary Life Insurance selection.
Enrolling in new coverage
Good news! If you are a brand new Voluntary Life Insurance enrollee, during 2025 Open Enrollment, you may purchase up to $30,000 in Reliance Matrix life insurance for yourself (and up to $10,000 for your spouse) without needing any medical exam. What a great time to think about making sure you have adequate life insurance for yourself and your family. This is a very generous enrollment offer from Reliance Matrix since a medical exam is often required. If you and your spouse are both Reliant employees, you may each purchase up to $30,000 of voluntary life insurance.
Changing existing coverage
You may increase your existing voluntary life insurance coverage by up to $30,000 and your spouse's coverage by up to $10,000, without any additional forms or approval. If this increase puts your total coverage over $100,000 for the employee or your spouse's total coverage over $30,000, you will be required to fill out an application and may need to undergo a medical exam.
A special voluntary life application with medical questions and a possible medical exam is required if:
- You elect to add or increase coverage by more than $30,000 for an employee and more than $10,000 for the spouse
- Your new total requested amount exceeds $100,000 for the employee and $30,000 for the spouse
Age Restrictions May Apply
The above-listed increases are allowed for employees under the age of 70 and spouses under the age of 60. If you or your spouse are over these ages, these coverage amounts may be available, but additional forms and medical exams may be required.
You may also elect coverage for children up to a maximum amount of coverage of $10,000. The coverage applies to children aged six months-26 years.
- The insured parent and/or spouse must carry at least twice the amount of coverage that is requested for the child/children. For example, if $10,000 is requested, then the employee or the spouse must have Voluntary Life Coverage in the amount of at least $20,000.
- Regardless of the number, there is one rate for all eligible children in the family.
- If a loss were to occur and a claim was to be paid out, it would be for $10,000 per eligible child lost.
Other Important Information if both you and your spouse are employed with Reliant.
- You may not have coverage as both an employee and as a dependent.
- Only one insured may cover the eligible dependent children.
- Neither you nor your spouse may hold more than a total of $500,000.00 of group term life insurance with Reliance Standard under the master Group Policy. Insurance over that amount will be void, and the premium will be refunded.
