Reliant employees and interns as well as any LT leadership (such as volunteers) are not allowed to help coordinate rides to or from LT. It is the responsibility of the LT participants. Our liability begins at the start of the Program not to or from the Program location. It is the responsibility of the The LT director to make sure is responsible for ensuring that all LT contacts for every campus attending their LT are made aware of this rule.
Our liability insurance begins upon arrival to the event. Due to this fact, we can not organize transportation to or from the event as Reliant, Collegiate, and the local church could all be deemed liable for the risks associate associated with coordinating travel. That means the participant is responsible to secure for securing transportation to the event. No Reliant employee (staff or , intern, or volunteer) can organize a carpool for driving to the event - that would need to be 100% solely led and organized by a student for liability reasons.

Can exceptions be made for a Reliant employee to drive an LT participant to the program if the participant initiates the need for the ride? Yes. But, we need to make sure we can make a distinction between not coordinating travel overall and approving a special request for a Reliant employee to drive a student who has requested a ride. You can request an exception by following the instructions below.

We need to make a distinction in this special exception request to show that we did not coordinate the transportation for the participant. We can approve this exception by making it clear that the student (and parents) reached out to the staff member asking for a ride in order for the student to attend the program. Have the parent send an email explanation to lt@reliant.org that states that they If you wouldn’t mind emailing me back with an explanation to say that you guys reached out to the staff member (name) and that you they understand that the Program has not begun until arrival the participant arrives at LT. And please Ask them to also include that you they understand that driving to the Program is separate from the Program itself and that you they assume all liability in travel and that they are requesting approval for an exception to travel with a Reliant staff member to LT. Then, I think that would cover our bases. (Dave, do you have any other things to add?)Please let me know the name of the staff member and once we receive your email, I will reach out to the staff member as well to let them know that we are allowing this exception to the original ruleReliant will reach out to the staff member once we receive the special exception request to let them know that we are allowing this exception to the original rule.

Many parents ask about transportation to and from the airport to the YMCA for the LT programs. There is a shuffle from the airport to the YMCA for the Estes Park LT program.

Why is coordinating rides a concern? In 2005, there was a wreck on the way to Orlando, LT and Reliant was involved in a lawsuit. The student flipped their car because they fell asleep at the wheel. The parents of the student who was hurt in the process sued Reliant and the church that the participant came from for the cost of their medical bills. Because of this, a Reliant employee (missionary or intern) cannot be involved in the carpool process because Reliant and the church can be sued if a Reliant-paid employee is involved. If we say it was a completely participant lead then Reliant/church is not responsible until they arrive at the LT. |
