The Why

Our tech team has thought through the best security measures for your email, VPN, and computer with the goal of:

  1. Allowing you to, as securely as possible, connect with Reliant Central regarding any financial matters.
  2. Being able to send paystubs and employment-related requests to a proton-based email.
  3. Keeping Reliant and the legal entity completely separate.

Therefore we are going to provide

...

you with two emails:

  1. Google-based email for communication with Reliant.
  2. Protonmail-based email for communication to

...

  1. and from other proton-based emails, as well as in-country communication where your employer information is required (visa applications, etc.)

1) Google-Based Reliant Email

Your current Reliant email will continue to operate the same as before; this email address will be utilized for Reliant communication. We ask for this email that you:For greater security we are asking that you:

  1. Continue to check this email on a regular basis, since it will be the primary way we communicate with you.
  2. Log Log- in to your VPN before jumping on the web browser.
  3. Only open it log in to Reliant.org through a web browser. DO NOT utilize Apple Mail, Outlook, or any other desktop application for this email.
    • when logging in to Reliant's websites, use a private browsing window (incognito mode)
    • when logging in to Reliant provisioned third-party websites (e.g. gmail, outlook), make sure you sign out when done
  4. Only use this email for contacting Reliant Central staff. No one else. If you're sending to @reliant.org, use your @reliant.org email.  If Central Reliant is sending an email to an international worker, they send from @from @reliant.org and to their @reliant.org.
  5. Do not use the name of the Legal entity when using your @reliant.org email. If you need to reference it, please say "legal entity".
  6. You will continue to use this email for submitting reimbursements.

2) Proton-Based Email

We are adding this Proton-based email for the following reasons:

  1. For sending employment-related information like W2's and paystubs to the Legal Entity employees (which is you).
  2. For receiving employment paperwork like W4's, etc.
  3. The domain name for these emails will be @legalentityname.global, which will which will allow you to link your new employment with a real email address for your validity with government & nationals. This will look more legitimate than @protonmail.com and will be more secure than @reliant.org legitimate than @protonmail.com.

Some basic rules to follow with your @legalentityname.global email would be:

  1. Use this for professional communication such as visa applications, business cards, and professional connections with nationals.
  2. Do not use this email to ask general questions to Reliant Central. The only times you'd really use the @legalentityname.global with Reliant Central is for employment-related paperwork, questions about the legal entity, and receiving paystubs and W2's. If you are not sure which email to use, just make sure you are sending to the same domain that you are sending from. So, if you are sending from @reliant.org only send to @reliant.org. If you are sending from @legalentityname.global only send to @legalentityname.global.
  3. Reliant Central will continue to send emails from a @reliant.org email to your @reliant.org email. They will NOT send emails to the @legalentityname.global account from a @reliant.org account. If they are sending to @legalentityname.global they will use an @legalentityname.global. For emailing others, like your teammates who would also have an @legalentity.global email, this provides end-to-end encryption for emails to others with a Protonmail account.
  4. You can utilize Protonmail with Apple Mail, Outlook, or other desktop-based applications. You will need to download the Protonmail Bridge to accomplish this.
  5. Reliant employment services and Program Teams will NOT send emails to this Protonmail account.
  6. If you're sending to @legalentity.global then you should only use your @legalentity.global email address
  7. Keep in mind, this creates some security concern as those emails are on your hard drive, but this is permissible. Safest way would be to only use a web browser.

Sending Updates or Communication with Others

For updates we recommend that you do not use the @legalentityname.global email. Our goal is to keep the @legalentityname.global email completely separate from anything Reliant (like your giving link) or ministry activities. This is best to come from an existing personal email with a generic domain name or if you want to take it up a notch get yourself an @protonmail.com email address. This give the added benefit of being able to communicate securely with other protonmail accounts.

Additionally, for emailing other M's not with the legal entity, or your friends and family, we recommend using a an existing generic personal address or taking it up a notch with the @protonmail.com email address.

Existing Team Email

Some of you may have a team email. Please continue to use this as your supervisor instructs. If you utilize this for Google docs, just be sure to do that on a VPN and a web browser that you can log off of. Do not use the Google Drive Desktop application. Follow the guidelines of the team that you are a part of in utilizing this email address.

Ok, that's a lot! Here's a chart to outline this. Keep in mind this assumes on a VPN and on a Web Browser.

Personal Email or Team Email

Some of you may have a team email and likely all of you have a personal email. Feel free to utilize your personal email for emails to friends and family. Keep in mind that any email outside protonmail to protonmail will have some risk. So be careful with language.

Recommendations for Mitigation of Risk with Email

...

  1. Proton VPN - 10 active connections at a time. Easier to use and more secure than other VPN's. If the link gives you an error, just do a search for the VPN (while on an existing VPN).
  2. Proton Pass - Password manager. It's a really great password manager, plus it has this amazing feature: you can create unlimited anonymous aliases that forward to your inbox. You can create up to 20 separate vaults.
  3. Proton Drive - 500GB of end-to-end encrypted storage

Social Media

We overall do not recommend being on social media other than to show pictures of your daily life. We'd recommend staying away from anything overtly Christian and anything that could be labeled as M-work.

Do not put anything about the legal entity on social media.
