It is Reliant’s policy to train intention that all our international staff are adequately trained in order to best prepare them well for international service overseas.  All staff team members traveling short-term or long-term must meet a minimum security and travel safety training requirement before the organization will Reliant central office will authorize travel overseas.  Any additional security trainings will be based on the risk profile of the location.

complete an online travel safety course. Reliant also recommends that the team member become familiar with Color Codes for Situational Awareness. A partner ministry may require additional training at their discretion.

Concilium Online Travel Safety Course - Follow the instructions to join the Reliant learning group, and the course will be automatically assigned.

Partner-Approved Alternative

Moderate

Reliant requires that each team member attend a higher-level security training appropriate for their location. Reliant will work in coordination with partnerships who will help to identify what type of training is needed.

Reliant requires attendance of an in-person security crisis response training. Reliant would also require additional high threat crisis training that will be dependent on the risks of the location.

Note

For short-term travel (such as mission trips), Reliant recommends all team members watch a travel safety training video (or approved equivalent) before traveling. We also want all team members to acknowledge the security warnings for their country before they leave.

Reliant requires all trips traveling to a Moderate risk level or higher to watch the travel safety training video, to register with the U.S. embassy and sign up to receive in-country alerts through https://step.state.gov/step/ and to be familiar with Color Codes for Situational Awareness.

At a minimum, overseas travelers must receive training in:

  • Security and crisis policies
  • Basic personal and travel safety

Long-term staff must receive training in:

  • Basic medical response
  • Basic self-defense
  • Active shooter response
  • Crisis prevention and security
  • Interviews and screenings (for restricted access countries)

Leadership must be trained in:

  • Location specific emergency plans
  • Crisis debriefing
  • Sexual assault response

Additional and refresher trainings may be required or offered at any time based on the discretion of Reliant leadership and the Crisis Manager.  Staff may be required to participate in those trainings before continuing work in the field.  Staff may also request specific trainings at any time.
