One issue we’ve run into in the past with LT interns is collecting a job description for them. Our process is to collect a job description from them when they attend the support-raising training in January. But that is often before they’ve talked with the L T director about any specifics of their roles and before the director knows what their summer LT leadership team will look like.

We’ve created a template that your LT program could use each year; they can adjust it later in the year, if needed based on more accurate specific info, but this would give us a good base, especially because a lot of the LT interns share similar job descriptions.

...

A Volunteer Intern is one who interns at LT, but does not raise support. Another term for it might be Associate Intern. They will go through the same interview application process as regular interns, LT applicants (on events.reliant.org) however they will also receive a background check and will be added to Reliant's liability insurance. They will not be able to raise support in any way.we will ask them to fill out a few more additional forms than required by the normal LT applicant due to the role the volunteer will place with added leadership and responsibility within the program.

  • Application: Due to liability reasons, all LT interns (including those that do not wish to raise support) must go through the same Reliant application as paid interns. Volunteer LT Interns will not be hired, but will receive an assessment and approval or deferralbe hired as a Reliant employee) will need to fill out an LT application prior to arrival at LT and will not be able to begin volunteering until the background check has been completed
    • Fee: The application fee is $49$50. This goes to off-set our costs to run background checks. If the director chooses they may request to add an event program fee for the volunteer as well.
    • Submission Deadline: Since they will not be attending Intern Training, Volunteer Intern candidates must submit their application at least 6 weeks before the church/applicant needs to know if the applicant has been approved by Reliant as an LT Volunteer Intern. (NOTE: This is not 6 weeks before the LT start-date. It is 6 weeks before you/the applicant need to know if they're approved to intern at LT.) Six weeks will give time for Local Interviews to be performed, background checks to be run, Reliant Reviews done and an "approved" or "not approved" decision to be made by Reliant leadership. The church must notify the applicant. Submitting an application consists of: Completing all the required materials in the "Documentation Phase"  on Reliant's Assessment Hub; including all application forms, all references and pay the application fee. Interview with Local Leadership: We ask churches to complete the Local Interview within 2 weeks of the applicant submitting their documentationwithin enough time to take and receive the results of the background check back before they can begin volunteering for the program (usually a few weeks)
  • Training: Volunteer interns are not required to attend intern training.
