Reliant reviews Collegiate's Leadership Training applications and accepts the event participants. If there are no concerns then Reliant will accept the applicant without any further steps needed. This page outlines the steps taken for applications that have concerns. If Reliant sees anything of concern with an applicant, Reliant event coordinator (Sarah) will send an email to each director if we see anything of concern to get the director’s approval before moving forwardthe appropriate LT director to inform them of the specific concern.
There is one important caveat to these concerns...before Reliant can move forward with sharing these :
- Sharing the concern with the
...
- appropriate LT director
- Pursuing a local pastoral interview with the applicant's pastor, or
- Follow up with their named reference(s) given by the applicant
Reliant needs to first verify that the LT or follow up with the spiritual reference we need to check the participant's application and make sure shows that they have responded with a YES to the Confidentiality Agreement on the LT application. We (We have added a this new question to the LT application in the AGREEMENT section Section asking for the participant's permission to discuss their LT application answers with their local pastor or staff named reference.) We will be required to honor their answer. If they say respond NO, then Reliant will discuss with inform the LT Director that we see a concern but since they have answered the Confidentiality question with NO we do not have permission to discuss this further. Reliant will then give their recommendation to the LT Director.
There are two categories of

Concerns on LT applications.
Level One Concerns
These are more One, is the typical red flags (pornpornography, alcohol, sexual purity, etc.) where they have the applicant has slipped up on occasion and they are seeking help and their spiritual named reference knows about it and knows that they are working through it. For those these types of concerns, we just want to make sure the director LT Director is ok OK with accepting them so Reliant is just looking for the director LT Director to say yes (rather than having Reliant make the final decision since directors :LT Directors will be spending the summer with them).
Level Two Concerns
The other type of concern is the more serious concerns concern (self harm, consistently/habitually making bad choices, suicidal thoughts, multiple concerns listed, the spiritual named reference mentions nothing about their struggles, etc.) where we will ask the director LT Director to speak with the applicant's local pastor going to attend LT with them or local spiritual reference and have them have conduct a local, in person interview and discuss the concerns concern(s) with the LT applicant. We will ask them to document and summarize the discussion over with an email and send it to Reliant. Reliant
Reliant would like to add one more thing to concerns of this type. For insurance liability purposes, we have to show that we used sound judgement in choosing who we accept. So, for people who we are super concerned about applicants where there is a higher level of concern (ex., the need to ask a their local pastor to have a follow up conversation personal interview with them), we will consider their LT acceptance a conditional acceptance. Reliant will send an email to those participants to say LT applicants that states based on the results of the local pastoral interview we are Reliant is conditionally accepting them into the LT program. But, we reserve Reliant reserves the right to continue to monitor how things are going and make suggestions and if we feel that they need to their situation, make suggestions, recommend that they seek medical attention or counseling, or if they are professional counseling. If the LT participant is still not displaying the Christian character we request as a participant in the LT program, etc. then we reserve Reliant reserves the right to send them home and remove them from the program.
Reliant wants to keep the decision for the most part in the hands of the LT directorsDirectors.
The only case that Reliant would say absolutely no NO to accepting an applicant, is in cases such as where the parent has said clearly stated that in no way they want their son/daughter absolutely can not goto attend LT. It would say on the application "WE HAVE PERSONALLY ADVISED OUR SON/DAUGHTER NOT TO PARTICIPATE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS". and an example of a reason would be... "I have read that this location has a high crime rate and as her mom, I am NOT ok OK with this." In the case of a parent saying no way they absolutely can not go, then Reliant would say we just can not cannot accept them due to insurance liability reasons.
In general, most parents say they have concerns and those are fixed usually adequately addressed after the parents have a discussion with the LT directorDirector. You may see on the application: "WE ARE NOT OPPOSED TO OUR SON/DAUGHTER PARTICIPATING, BUT WE HAVE THE FOLLOWING RESERVATIONS THAT WE SIMPLY WANT TO MAKE RELIANT AWARE OF"....... and that usually follows with a question or concern that . Reliant will then send an email to the LT Director to ask that the director to Director follow up with the parent to discuss and resolve.
