Application Process for LT Interns

All LT interns who will be employed by Reliant must apply online at apply.reliant.org using the Intern/Resident/Associate application to be a paid intern during their summer as an intern at LT.

Interns may apply at any time up until the deadline.  The application deadline is November 28th.

Note
Volunteer interns who are not going to be employed by Reliant will apply through the LT application site on events.reliant.org (see more info below).

Here is a sample timeline (from 2020) to help guide you with timing.

LT Fee Info

  • LT Directors, be prepared to give Reliant the LT fee for interns during our Hiring Decision Call with you (by Dec. 19). This fee is necessary to calculate their support goal.
  • LT interns do not pay for their LT fee directly. The Reliant summer intern program will do an internal transfer for their LT payment and they will only pay out of pocket if they have insufficient funds. See Event Fee Payments Made by Reliant Employee
  • The LT intern's application with Reliant (from apply.reliant.org) serves also as their LT participation application. They do not need to also fill out an LT Participation application like the other LT participants.  The Reliant LT Admin will manually add all accepted interns into the LT program registration.

LT Job Description

One issue we’ve run into in the past with LT interns is collecting a job description for them. Our process is to collect a job description from them when they attend the support-raising training in January. But that is often before they’ve talked with the L T director about any specifics of their roles and before the director knows what their summer LT leadership team will look like.

We’ve created a template that your LT program could use each year; they can adjust it later in the year, if needed based on more accurate specific info, but this would give us a good base, especially because a lot of the LT interns share similar job descriptions.

LT Volunteer Interns

A Volunteer Intern is one who interns at LT, but is not employed by Reliant. Another term for it might be Associate Intern. They will go through the same application process as regular LT applicants. However they will additionally be asked to receive a background check as well as signing a few more additional forms than required by the normal LT applicant due to the role the volunteer will have with added leadership and responsibility within the program.  Those additional forms include the sexual harassment policy, code of conduct, statement of faith, and a statement acknowledging that they are not receiving medical insurance, workers compensation or other benefits.

  • Application: Since the volunteer intern will be using the same application as regular LT applicants, the LT director will need to email the Reliant summer program coordinator (Sarah) to let them know that a volunteer intern is applying. Due to liability reasons, all volunteers will not be able to begin volunteering until the background check has been completed.
    • Fee: The LT for which the applicant is applying will be charged for the background check. If the director chooses they may request to add an event program fee for the LT volunteer to pay as well (it is typically the same cost as the participants pay for LT).  That fee will be manually added to their event registration based on the director's request.  The director/finance administrator will also receive an invoice from the summer program coordinator to approve for the cost of the background check to be charged to their LT event fund.

    • Submission Deadline: Since they will not be attending Intern Training, Volunteer Intern candidates must submit their application within enough time to take and receive the results of the background check back before they can begin volunteering for the program (usually a few weeks).

  • Training: Volunteer interns are not required to attend intern training.

Caleb Hayworth will be your main point of contact this year for the intern application process.

He is here to help if you run into any snags or questions. We’re working hard to make assessing your interns as seamless and easy as possible. So, let us know if something could be improved!
